As many children return to school this week after not having seen their peers in person for some time, it is fitting to celebrate them and their friendships.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is celebrating Children’s Week from 23 - 31 October, with free online activities for children up to 12 years of age.

As well as post new activities to social media during the week, we have put together a webpage with information and resources to encourage children to play, inspire new interests and connect with nature.

This year’s Children’s Week theme is children have the right to choose their friends and safely connect with others.

Children's Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

Mornington Peninsula Shire acknowledges and pays respect to the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung people, the traditional custodians of these lands and waters.

Quotes attributable to Mayor, Despi O’Connor:

“Children’s week is an opportunity for Peninsula families to enjoy some fun and educational activities online - all free and easy to do with common items found in and around the home.

“I appreciate after the last 18 months many of us are exhausted and that includes our children - I’d like to encourage parents and carers to check in with children and find out how they are going.

“Some services to support parents and provide activities for children include maternal child health consultations, kindergarten registration, supported playgroups, youth centres, our libraries and art galleries, sports and recreation facilities and community houses.”
