Celebrate Sustainable House Day in Mt Martha
Published on 06 September 2018
Mornington Peninsula Shire invites the community to celebrate Sustainable House Day on Sunday 16 September at the Eco Living Display Centre at The Briars.
For more than 12 years, Sustainable House Day has provided a great opportunity to experience some of Australia’s leading green homes and how they are environmentally friendly, cheaper to run and more comfortable to live in.
The Centre will be open from 10am to 4pm on the day offering visitors the opportunity to see a range of energy saving ideas in practice including: solar power with battery back-up; lighting; heat pumps for water/heating; ventilation; insulation; window covering and glazing.
Staff and volunteers will be available to answer your questions as you tour the house and garden and provide information on a range of sustainable initiatives including:
- How to introduce passive solar design elements to create a more comfortable home
- Free composting advice from our expert ‘Bernadette’
- Boomerang Bags available to purchase for a gold coin donation. Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities to make reusable bags from recycled materials. The initiative provides a free, fun, sustainable alternative to single use bags.
By getting involved in Sustainable House Day, you’ll be participating in a global movement, celebrating a grassroots initiative focusing on community building and sustainability.
