Balnarring Recreation Reserve has received an improved surface to allow the local sports groups and community to play on a safe, high-quality oval.

We funded the project through our Capital Works budget for 2021 – 22. The $1.05 million reconstruction has improved the surface conditions by improving the drainage of water from the surface and promoting healthy turf growth.

The Reserve is home to Balnarring Cricket Club and Junior Football Club and the new oval now meets AFL standards which is suitable for both football and cricket. The project also included new fencing, coaches’ boxes and other amenities.

Until the grass becomes established and healthy there is no AFL competition use of the grounds through winter, but it will be ready for the cricket season from October 2022.

The eight-month project is now complete, and the oval is open for general access to the public.

“The oval works, and renewed facilities are of great benefit to the Balnarring Cricket Club and the Thunder Junior Football Club. Improvements to our sports facilities encourages even more people to enjoy local ‘grass roots’ competitions and informal sporting activities.”
