Access all areas: have your say

Published on 06 December 2017

Mornington Peninsula Shire wants to hear from residents and visitors about its 2018 – 2022 Disability Action Plan.

A legislative requirement under the Victorian Disability Act 2006, the Disability Action Plan will enable the Shire to:

  • help remove physical barriers for people with disability
  • increase opportunities for inclusion and participation
  • ensure people with disability have equal access to services and facilities.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Bryan Payne said “we want to build on the successes brought to us by our last Disability Action Plan”.

“Accessible spaces such as the Civic Reserve Community Centre and the All Access Playgrounds in Hastings and Rye have shown the huge difference accessibility can make.

“Alongside policies currently being implemented like our Footpath Construction and Toilet Strategy, we will see Mornington Peninsula becoming more accessible to many more people.

Council Representative for All Abilities Consultative Committee and Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi said “we want to see the more of the Mornington Peninsula being made accessible to people with disability, their families and support networks”.

The community are invited to assist in developing the next stage of the 2018 – 2022 Disability Action Plan through having their say.

The Shire would particularly like to hear from people with a disability, carers, support workers, service providers and community groups.

The Shire’s All Abilities Consultative Committee played a key role in the development of the Plan.

This approach enables community members with lived experience to play a leadership role in engaging with key stakeholders and setting priorities for the next four years.
