A safe and happy New Year’s Eve for all
Published on 24 December 2021
As we get closer to the end of the year, residents and visitors are looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve here on the Mornington Peninsula. We want everyone to have fun and enjoy the last day of 2021. While our New Year’s Eve plans have been muted this year due to COVID-19, we are looking forward to a much bigger celebration in 2022.
Our complimentary shuttle bus service is operating again this year.
A one-way shuttle service will depart Portsea from 10pm and Sorrento from 2am on New Year’s Eve, dropping patrons off along Point Nepean Road to Dromana until 4am Saturday 1 January at the following bus stops:
- Stop # 1 Blairgowrie shops
- Stop # 2 Rye Pier
- Stop # 3 Truemans Road (Tootgarook)
- Stop # 4 Rosebud Plaza
- Stop # 5 Jetty Road (Rosebud)
- Stop # 6 Dromana Pier
- Stop # 7 Kangerong Avenue (Dromana).
Pets and fireworks don’t mix!
With extra noise and activity as the new year ticks over, sometimes pets can get scared and run away. Last year we rescued 20 dogs that had been frightened by fireworks and escaped. We have rostered on extra rangers to help distressed pets and families on New Year’s Eve. If your pet gets lost, please call 1300 850 600.
Got any issues?
To report any issues impacting the community on New Year's Eve, please phone Mornington Peninsula Shire Customer Service on 1300 850 600.
Illegal and antisocial behaviour should be reported to the police. In an emergency, call 000.
Like previous years, we are working with our local Police to ensure residents and visitors on the southern Peninsula have a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve. This includes the usual alcohol ban on New Year’s Eve, the closure of Rye Pier foreshore carpark and a ban on fireworks.
Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“We’re all looking forward to celebrating the end of 2021 and better times ahead. Let’s look out for each other and enjoy a safe New Year’s Eve celebration.
With the success of our Rye Schoolies festival in November, we’ve seen what can be achieved and this gives us confidence to start imagining what 2022 New Year’s Eve might look like on the Peninsula.
From all of us at Mornington Peninsula Shire: Happy New Year to our wonderful community!”
