At just seven years of age, Harrison Daley is the Shire’s first and youngest Recycling Ambassador and unofficial Recycling Champion.

Harrison has been cleaning up and educating the Peninsula for years and holds regular community clean-ups at Mornington beaches.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is calling for more volunteers to join Harrison as Recycling Champions. This new team of community advocates will support the Shire’s efforts to help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill on the Peninsula.

Shire Mayor Cr David Gill said it’s more important than ever to ensure we place recyclables in the correct bin.

“Overseas policy changes have limited the level of contamination accepted in recycling.

“Putting the wrong items in your recycling bin could mean the whole bin is sent to landfill instead of being recycled, which is bad news for our environment and local wildlife.

“Through the Recycling Champions initiative, we’re empowering the community to get involved and get active”.

Anyone over 18 years of age can become a Recycling Champion to help make a difference, learn more about recycling, meet new people and make the Peninsula a better place.

No prior knowledge or experience is required, just your passion and willingness to share your ideas.

Recycling champions will be provided with training, recycling resources and ongoing support from the Shire’s Waste Education Officer.

As a Recycling Champion you’ll get involved in community activities such as:

  • Helping out at local events
  • Distributing flyers/posters
  • Talking to local groups about recycling
