Sorrento: Coppin Road Footpath and Roadworks
- Project typeRoads, Streetscapes & Footpaths
- Project value$800,000
A footpath construction project is soon to commence on Coppin Road to create a safe pedestrian passage that links Melbourne Rd and Point Nepean Rd and to service both Primary Schools and the bus route along Coppin Rd. This path will also fill in missing links that will connect to existing footpaths on abutting streets.
The project includes a 1.5m wide exposed aggregate footpath that runs along the north-western side of Coppin Road. Other features include:
- Improved bus stop waiting areas;
- Pedestrian refuge crossing on Melbourne Road;
- Raised platforms for traffic calming; and
- Retaining walls where necessary.
During the design phase, the project scope also increased to include road widening and drainage works. The road width was a concern raised by residents, as Coppin Road is a public bus route and also has many buses crossing paths with each other at school pick up and drop off times.

In December 2018, Council awarded the contract for the works to Gilmore Civil Pty Ltd. Works commenced in April 2019 at the Melbourne Road end of Coppin Road.
Drainage, kerb and path works have been completed in this section between Melbourne Road and Kerferd Road with asphalt regulation planned to occur within the first week of school holidays.
Path works in the section between Kerferd Road and Constitution Hill Road are planned to be undertaken in the second week of school holidays before moving on to the section between Constitution Hill Road and Point Nepean Road. Once civil works have been completed in Coppin Road, the final asphalt wearing course will be laid.
The progress of works have been delayed by inclement weather with completion now anticipated for August 2019.
