Moorooduc: Bentons Road Upgrade - Moorooduc Highway to Derril Road

Mornington Peninsula Shire will soon be completing the third and final stage of the Bentons Road upgrade in Moorooduc – one of the Peninsula’s significant east-west road corridors.
As part of the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery funding program, the final stage will be improving the section of Bentons Road between Moorooduc Highway and Derril Road.
This stage follows the already completed widening of Loders Road, as well as the construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Bentons Road and Derril Road.
Stage three works will include:

  • widening of the existing road pavement
  • installation of new and upgrade of existing drainage infrastructure
  • installation of crash barriers
  • an upgrade of the intersection of Gorman/Rickards/Bentons Road.

As part of the stage three works, a 1.6km stretch of Bentons will be constructed with Plastiphalt – an asphalt product using recycled waste plastic.
This is one of the larger road projects undertaken by the Shire and approximately 1,450 tonnes of Plastiphalt will be used, with around 5 tonnes of plastic (1.8 million plastic packages) diverted from landfill.

This is part of Council’s Environmentally Sustainable Design Policy aiming to enhance the Peninsula’s built environment to meet our diverse community’s needs without detriment to the natural environment.
At its Council Meeting on Tuesday 8th of December 2020, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council accepted a tender submission for the reconstruction of Bentons Road. The project has been awarded to local firm Maw Civil Pty Ltd.

The project will commence construction in early February 2021. It is anticipated construction will be completed by October 2021.
