Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2030

Mornington Peninsula Shire recently invited public feedback on the draft Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2030. The Strategy provides a framework for delivery of the Shire’s policy and actions aimed at improving gender equality and reducing violence against women and their children - within the Shire’s workforce, the community and through design and delivery of Shire’s services and programs.

The Strategy has a primary prevention approach, this means stopping violence before it occurs using the OurWatch National Framework.

Earlier this year the Mornington Peninsula Shire heard from community members, staff and key stakeholders about their views and ideas on gender equality though a series of workshops, feedback postcards, a survey and the review of the previous Prevention of Family Violence Implementation Plan. The consultation along with evidence has shaped the development of the draft Gender Equality Strategy.

The draft Strategy was available via public exhibition for a period of four weeks from Monday 19 August to Monday 16 September 2019.

After the public exhibition stage the draft Strategy will be presented to Council for endorsement in November 2019. The Strategy will then be launched and development of an action plan will commence.
