Draft Reconciliation Action Plan
Mornington Peninsula Shire recently invited public feedback on our draft Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which has been developed using Reconciliation Australia’s framework – Innovate.
An Innovate RAP outlines actions that work towards achieving the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s unique vision for reconciliation. Commitments within this RAP have allowed the Shire to be aspirational and innovative to help our organisation gain a deeper understanding of its sphere of influence and establish the best approach to advance reconciliation.
An Innovate RAP focuses on developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, developing and piloting innovative strategies to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Draft Reconciliation Action Plan was developed after an extensive consultation process including two community consultations, online survey, consultation with youth groups, Traditional Owner consultations, Aboriginal community controlled organisations, Aboriginal peak body organisations, Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillors and Council staff.
