Have your say: Sorrento Coastal Management Plan

After consultation with the community, the Mornington Peninsula Shire has developed a draft Sorrento Coastal Management Plan to protect and enhance the unique natural and cultural heritage of the Sorrento foreshore reserve for present and future generations to enjoy.

The Plan establishes an agreement between the Victorian Government, Mornington Peninsula Shire and the community as to how the foreshore reserve will be managed.  The Plan will provide direction for the vision and future management of the Sorrento Foreshore Reserve through strategic planning, use and development.

The draft Plan outlines strategies for the foreshore on the following themes:

  • Natural systems

  • Cultural heritage

  • Recreation

  • Safe access and use

  • Infrastructure and buildings

  • Climate change adaptation

  • Commercial operators, tourism and events

  • Community awareness and involvement

  • Monitoring and review

The Sorrento foreshore, for the purpose of the Coastal Management Plan project, includes the coastal crown land from the western side of 3098 Point Nepean Road, Sorrento, to the foreshore opposite 3440 Point Nepean Road, Sorrento.

The first round of public community consultation was held from 30 March 2017 to 28 April 2017, and the document was placed on public exhibition from 31 October 2017 to 1 December 2017. A drop-in session was also held on 11 November 2017. Submissions received during the public exhibition period were reviewed and, where appropriate, suggestions were incorporated into the plan.

We are currently inviting the community to provide feedback on the draft Plan until Monday 15 April 2019.
