Have your say: Proposed speed limit reductions on the peninsula

As a Towards Zero Municipality, the Shire is committed to creating a safe road system in collaboration with VicRoads, the TAC and Victoria Police. This means that we are working towards safer road use, safer roads, safer speeds and safer vehicles.

The Shire receives many concerns about speeding vehicles each year. The following sections of roads have been identified as high priorities for speed limit reduction:

  • South Beach Road, Bittern (Trafalgar Street to Urquart Crescent)
  • Davies Road, Bittern
  • Bruce Road, Mount Martha (Nepean Highway to east of Martha Cove Boulevard)
  • Watt Road, Mornington
  • Truemans Road, Tootgarook (South of Karella Drive to Belar Road)
  • Jetty Road, Rosebud (Old Cape Schanck Road to Duells Road)

Factors like the number of recorded crashes, road environment, volume of traffic, abutting land uses, driveways and intersecting roads and the number of community concerns or requests received have been considered in determining these roads to be priority speed limit change proposals.

The proposed speed limit reductions are supported by the VicRoads speed zoning guidelines and have in principle support from both VicRoads and Victoria Police.
