Have Your Say: Somerville Active Recreation Hub

Mornington Peninsula Shire is inviting the local community to share their thoughts and ideas on the elements they would like to see at a brand new Active Recreation Hub in Somerville.
The Active Recreation Hub for Somerville would consist of approximately 300 square metres of designated BMX, scooter, bike and skate components and could include recreational features such as a multi-use court, parkour equipment and trampolines.
After undertaking a thorough site selection process, Mornington Peninsula Shire has determined the most suitable location to build the Hub is Fruit Growers Reserve (Edward Street side).
This site is centrally located close to schools, offers good passive surveillance, linkages to public transport and pedestrian connections, access to public toilets, as well as connections with other community facilities and services.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long will the mobile skate ramp stay at Fruit Growers Reserve?

The mobile ramp will remain at Fruit Growers until the new facility is constructed.

Will the community be able to suggest any type of equipment/features at the Hub, or will a list be provided?

Officers and Playce (the consultant) will be at the two drop in sessions and will be seeking information on what should go in the hub including discussing/outlining key skate features. Your suggestions at this time and via the “have your say page” will greatly assist the shaping of the design.

Will there be a second-round consultation?

Once we collect your ideas and suggestions, Playce will be preparing a draft concept plan. This will be presented at a 3rd drop in session where you can provide final feedback to refine and adjust the concept accordingly.

What are the next stages of the project?

After the exhibition phase a concept design will be developed and endorsed by Council. The project will then progress to detailed design, which needs to be completed prior to commencing construction of the new facility.
