Have Your Say: Reconciliation Action Plan

Mornington Peninsula Shire invites the community to provide thoughts on the Shire’s new Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Through the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan, the Shire aims to build on relationships, respect and trust between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians living on the Mornington Peninsula.

Reconciliation is about

  • Strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations
  • Respecting the world’s longest surviving cultures and communities

  • Developing meaningful opportunities to improve social, cultural and economic outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is developing a new Reconciliation Action Plan to strengthen reconciliation on the Mornington Peninsula. The plan will build on the achievements in the Shire’s existing Reconciliation Policy and Action plan including:

  • Sponsorship of a number of significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events such as Reconciliation week, NAIDOC week, MABO Day, Anniversary of the Apology

  • Supporting local Aboriginal business

  • Acknowledgement of  Traditional Owners

  • Culture Awareness and Respect Training for Shire staff

The Shire’s RAP will include practical actions to drive our contribution to reconciliation both internally and in the community.
