Hastings Residential Area: Road Safety Improvements

More than 100 people attended the first in a series of drop in sessions regarding proposed road safety improvements in Hastings, Dromana and Rosebud as part of the Safer Residential Areas Project.

If you missed out on this opportunity to have your say and learn more about how we are looking to improve our road network, you can attend presentations in Dromana, Hastings and Rosebud in the coming weeks.

Mornington Peninsula Shire invites the community to ‘have your say’ on road safety proposals designed for the 3 residential areas.

Proposed road safety improvements include: roundabouts, raised platforms, pedestrian crossings and signage.

Being a Towards Zero municipality the Shire aims to create a safe road system including safer roads and roadsides, safer speeds, safer vehicles and safer road use.  The Shire has committed $1 million in matched funding from the State’s Towards Zero program to improve road safety in residential areas identified as having high crash risk throughout the Shire.

The Safer Residential Areas Project, as part of the Shire’s Toward Zero Municipality initiative, strives to improve safety on local streets for all road users with a focus on the young and elderly.

Shire-wide analysis has highlighted the residential areas of Hastings, Dromana and Rosebud as having the highest number of casualty crashes in the Shire.

On the residential streets in these towns there have been around 51 recorded crashes in the past five years.

Based on the crash locations and safety concerns from residents and stakeholders, suitable road safety improvements will be proposed.

This consultation follows on from the communty sessions and consultation held in February 2018.
