Food Safety at Events and Festivals
The Shire's Environmental Health Team monitors the safety of foods sold at local markets, events and festivals. This includes food vehicles, temporary food stalls and sausage sizzles. The Food Act and National Food Safety Standards also apply to community groups and temporary food premises.
The State Government Food Safety Unit manages the FoodTrader online registration system for temporary food premises and food vehicles across Victoria. In June 2023, the Streatrader website and portal was replaced with the FoodTrader food registration system by the Victorian Government. FoodTrader can be accessed at the FoodTrader website.
Information on the process for temporary food notifications is available on the FoodTrader website. For any further queries, phone the FoodTrader team on 1300 364 352. Please log onto FoodTrader and follow the prompts to lodge your application, notification and/or Statements of Trade. No application fee applies.
Community groups selling low risk foods are required only to fill out the notification form and lodge a Statement of Trade on Streatrader. The types of low risk foods are:
- Simple sausage sizzle (the same as a Bunnings sausage sizzle, that is limited to the following foods - beef sausage, onion, bread, sauce or low risk pre-packaged drinks)
- Packaged cakes and confectionary
- Wine tasting
- Tea/coffee
- Uncut fruit and vegetables
Food Safety Guidelines for Temporary Food Premises
Community groups and businesses selling foods at markets, events and festivals must follow the Mornington Peninsula Shire Guidelines for Temporary Food Premises(PDF, 497KB).
