| The Shire is responsible for the registration of cats and dogs, and for ensuring that pets in public places are kept under reasonable control.
To ensure the welfare of pets it is important that they are kept in a healthy environment. It is also important that neighbours are not inconvenienced by pets. For these reasons local law permits are required when there are more than a certain number of dogs or cats kept in a household. To view the local law in relation to keeping pets and animals on your property, please visit the Local Laws webpage.
If you do not have a permit for excess animals, Shire Rangers may take further action. The number of animals permitted on a property depends on the size and location of the property. Click on the below table for this information. | |

 | A permit will be required to keep more animals. The application fee is $50 per property, plus the appropriate pet registration fees, should the permit be granted. |
