Free Waste Disposal

1.Overview

Dispose of your old television and computers at the Shire Transfer Stations for  free.

The federal government has introduced the National Television and Computer Product Stewardship Scheme. The Scheme passes the responsibility of recycling back to the manufacturers when televisions and computer equipment has reached the end of its life.

The Shire is pleased to announce, in partnership with DHL, QLS Ecycle Solutions and Ozanam Enterprises, that the scheme has commenced at the Shire’s waste disposal facilities at Rye, Mornington and Tyabb.

Residents and small businesses are now able to drop off computer equipment, televisions and computer monitors for free. To discourage large businesses and corporations from exploiting the availability of this service a limit of 15 items per drop applies.

The computer equipment and televisions are dismantled by Ozanam Enterprises, a disability employment support service located in Mornington. The dismantled material is then transported to separate recycling facilities for processing.
